PET-FOOD PANTRIES IN MAINE

To make sure no pets go hungry in this difficult economy, pet food pantries are popping up all over Maine. If you’re struggling to make ends meet, here’s where you can get food for your pets. If you’re lucky enough to have a bit extra this year, please donate to any of the following pet pantries — and thank you!

STATEWIDE

If you don’t see your local animal shelter listed here, call them — they may have food donations they’re not using. Also try your local human-food pantry, as pet food may be donated to them on occasion — if they know there’s a need, they may start soliciting for pet-food donations.

Barn Homes Needed

Shelters everywhere are overflowing with cats and kittens surrendered or abandoned by people who can no longer afford to care for them.

FoFF has been fielding a growing number of calls to help find homes for not only feral cats but also abandoned domestic cats and kittens. Our waiting list for cats who need barn homes grows every week.

If you can offer your barn as a safe haven for any number of cats, please let us know (email Jill, our barn-cat coordinator, or the FoFF office).

Some of the cats are truly feral and need only to be fed and left alone to mouse; others are friendlier and might normally be placed in homes but, given the overflow in shelters and the fact they are used to living outside, we are trying to place them in barns. All cats are fixed, vaccinated, and vet checked before placement.

Please help or spread the word about these cats who need only a place to sleep and a daily supply of food and water. And please let us know also if you have room for a friendly housecat or kitten, or are interested in being a temporary foster home for one.
